The Little Lev Piano Festival is a new, national professional development program for outstanding pianists aged 10 -15 years.
Devised by the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition, in partnership with AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) and Kawai Australia, The Festival is designed to help students improve their technical skills, prepare for competitive performances, and learn from their peers.
Students around Australia can now apply for a place in a Festival Masterclass, to be held May 2017 in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
Using our online application form, students are asked to provide a short video audition featuring repertoire of their own choice. We’re looking for applicants that demonstrate both musical ability and appropriate preparation for the audition videos. Up to six students, per city, will be invited to participate in the Masterclasses, to be conducted by Oleg Stepanov, Artistic Director of the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition.
What Happens Next?
Following the national series, six of the best students from the cohort will be invited to perform in the Little Lev Showcase at the 2017 Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition & Festival, this September in Brisbane. The showcase includes a Masterclass conducted by a Lev Vlassenko Competition Jury member (to be announced), and a performance opportunity in front of the entire national and international Competition Jury panel.
As a finale, two students will be selected to take part in a special performance during the Competition’s Final Concert at the Queensland Conservatorium Theatre – streamed live, online for world-wide audiences.
For students residing outside major metropolitan areas, organisers are also offering small grants. Eligible students can apply to the AMEB Little Lev Travel Fund, for assistance with travel costs to and from Festival events. All events will be ticketed, and we encourage the general public to attend.
Online Applications will close Friday 31st March 2017
