What's On

La Mama

Join the La Mama Youth Ensemble! (Expired)

Following the fantastic success that the now (tragically) de-funded Platform Youth Theatre had with us during their annual seasons (have a look at , La Mama is on the lookout for a brand new generation of young makers.

We’re starting with an amazing opportunity for anyone who dreams of a creative life, no matter what your experience or where you come from: to make a show from the ground up in just a few short weeks and then to stage it at our iconic theatre.

Guided by project coordinator Adam Cass, the ensemble will build, produce and perform every aspect of the show. Right now Kiss Sigh Shout is merely a title, so it’ll be completely up to you to make it something that’s going to knock the audience’s socks off.

You’ll need to be 18-25 years old.

You’ll need to be available for all of the below dates and times.

You’ll need to be excited by the prospect of working with a whole bunch of people from different backgrounds, with different levels of experience.

The idea of working at La Mama should excite you.

You’ll  need to be able to leave your cynicism at the door, but bring your adventurousness with you.

You’ll need to act fast – the first workshop is SOON (October 21st), so register your interest TODAY.

This is guerrilla theatre making at its most exciting. There is very little time, very little money, very few resources other than you and your ideas, as well as Australia’s most loved heatre.

You must be available on all (or most) of the following dates and times.

21st  & 28th October 10am – 5pm

4th, 11th, 18th, 19th, 25th, 26th November    10am-5pm

27th & 28th November     12noon-10pm

Throughout the workshop/rehearsal phase there will be things which you will need to do in your own time (writing, other creative tasks, learning lines, etcetera). The times for this are flexible, but it is expected that you will do at least four hours of solid work during each week of this phase. Adam will be available to help you.

The Season:

29th November – 10th December (Wed-Sun for 2 weeks, all evening shows except 4pm on Sundays).

Bump Out

10th December, 5.30pm-7.30pm (to clean up after ourselves)

To Apply.

Please send an email as soon as possible to project co-ordinator Adam Cass at to register your interest, and to declare your availability.

Attach the following to the email:

Some kind of introduction which lets us know (in whatever way you would like) a little about who you are, your experience in theatre making (no matter how great or small), and what excites you about the idea of taking part in Kiss Sigh Shout.

Some kind of photograph of yourself. It doesn’t need to be a professional headshot.

Some kind of creative response, whatever that might mean to you, as long as it is something that can be sent via email to the show’s title Kiss Sigh Shout, Laugh Cry Dream. Don’t be afraid to do a bad job. Take a risk.

A statement declaring that you are available for all of the listed dates and times (but please highlight any of those times that you might have a problem with).

THE show will run as a regular La Mama season. All ensemble members will receive an equal share of the box office following the season.

Get cracking!
