NIDA Melbourne invites EOIs for its residency program

NIDA Melbourne and Brunswick Mechanics Institute are curatorially interested in experimental performance in the categories of live art, theatre, dance and/or multi-modal performance. We strongly believe that the arts offer a pulse check of the nation and are excited by performance work that is responsive to the times we live in.

NIDA Melbourne and Brunswick Mechanics Institute are committed to supporting the entire life-cycle of developing new Melbourne-based work. This is a unique opportunity for artist/s to realise their idea from a seed to a season of live performance.

What does NIDA Melbourne provide?

  • A week-long residency at NIDA Melbourne Studio 2 valued at $2,450.00 + GST
  • Creative development and dramaturgical support facilitated by staff at NIDA Melbourne
  • Promotion via NIDA’s website and social media channels
  • Front of House staff for the season
  • Letters of support for grant applications
  • Public liability insurance when onsite
  • Photo and Video documentation for artists to promote and pitch their work in the future. 

What will Brunswick Mechanics Institute provide?

  • One week of rehearsal and development space
  • One week season in the Mechanics Theatre (or a season-length that is performance appropriate)
  • Technical support and staff
  • 70% box office
  • Letters of support for grant applications
  • Marketing and promotional support
  • Public liability insurance when onsite

Application Process

The form linked below includes an online application addressing the following criteria. Selection will be made by a panel of staff from NIDA Melbourne and Brunswick Mechanics Institute. The application review will take into account:

  • A short artist statement in relation to your proposed idea
  • Project description (including outcomes, participants and an explanation of how NIDA Launchpad would benefit you and your project)
  • Ideal project timeline
  • A summary of your artistic practice

  • Links to relevant work – video, images, essays, reviews etc – that will support your submission

Applications Open: 18 April 2018

Submission Deadline: 24 May 2018

Announcement: On, or shortly after 18 June 2018

NIDA Residency Dates: Sat 21–Friday 27 July 2018

Season Dates: to be decided in negotiation with Brunswick Mechanics Institute. Mechanics will work with the artist/s to find a time that works best for the project.
