About the Course

Ausdance ACT invites teachers to get Dance Ready with Move Up

There will be little rest for a group of dedicated ACT school teachers who will be kick starting their teaching year inspired and prepared with tools, resources and fresh ideas having attended Ausdance ACT’s Move Up summer holiday workshops.

Move Up is a Teacher Quality Institute registered program of practical dance workshops for upper primary and secondary teachers. These workshops are complimented by supporting material and school visits to assist teachers implement the dance elements of the national curriculum.

Ausdance ACT have put together a program featuring outstanding industry leaders. The week will start with a workshop led by Dr Katrina Rank, a leading Australian educator and dance artist renowned for her specialist education and training programs.

Day 2 will feature a fantastic range of cultural styles presented in a fun and dynamic environment - Bollywood with Liz Lea, Fan Dancing with Rachel Reid, Brazilian with Kirstie McMillan and Swing with the Canberra Swing Katz.

Day 3 will feature a Back to Basics session with Canberra based artist, Olivia Fyfe. This session will provide insight into teaching students with little to no dancing ability. Also on Day 3 Musical Theatre sessions with Kurt Phelan. Kurt recently shot to the spotlight playing the lead in the national tour of Dirty Dancing, the role made famous by Patrick Swayze. Earning him the title of 'Australia's newest leading man' (the Age).

Day 4 is hosted by Jazz Funk & Hip Hop dancer and choreographer Charlie Bartley. Charlie was the runner up on SYTCD Australia series 2 and later a guest choreographer. He has gone on to perform in many musicals and appeared in Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby.

And finally, on Day 5 Contemporary Dance with Artistic Director of Phluxus2 Dance Collective Nerida Matthaei. In this workshop, participants will learn repertoire from Nerida's latest work, angel-monster and be lead through tasks relating to the creative process. The week will finish with The Duet between Camera and Dancer Workshop. This workshop with award winning choreographer and film maker Sue Healey aims to awaken the senses to create, capture and shape movement for the camera and the screen.

It is a full and dynamic program that allows teachers to create their own professional learning package choosing the workshops that suit them best.
