Can the arts sector recover?

The arts sector is struggling to envisage the future in the face of post-Budget Australia Council grant outcomes that left many stranded and more bad news from MYEFO.

With waves of bad news through ​the past year, the capacity of the arts for resilience will be sorely tested in 2016.

The dismal predictions we have been hearing all year came true last week when the Australia Council finally delivered its first post-Budget funding round. With the cancellation of earlier rounds forced by the Budget cuts, the September project funding round was ​even more highly competitive than usual: ​more than 1,700 applications submitted with only 290 successful.
