Four of the Academy’s brightest and best have won their place in the annual ANAM Concerto Competition Final after a gruelling round of heats. The final will be held on Wednesday 21 October at 7pm.

MEDIA COURTESY OF: ANAM Four of the Academy’s brightest and best have won their place in the annual ANAM Concerto Competition Final after a gruelling round of heats. The final will be held on Wednesday 21 October at 7pm. The winner will receive $1000.00 cash plus the opportunity to perform a full concerto with orchestra. For the first time, the Academy will also offer an audience prize of $500.00, awarded to the performer with the highest audience vote. The finalists are: Sam Curkpatrick (clarinet), Malcolm Arnold Clarinet Concerto No. 2; Monique Lapins (violin), Sibelius Violin Concerto; Ashley Smith (clarinet), Ross Edwards Clarinet Concerto; and Emma Sullivan (double bass), Giovanni Bottesini Double Bass Concerto no. 2 in b minor. Conducted by Richard Mills, one of Australia’s leading composers & conductors with Orchestra Victoria. The first round heats were held in June and 45 Academy musicians performed one movement of a concert with piano accompaniment. The second round-of-heats were held in August with 10 Academy musicians shortlisted to perform an entire concerto with piano accompaniment. The judging panel includes: David Berlin, principal cello, MSO; Jo Beaumont, Artistic Director, Orchestra Victoria; Richard Mills, distinguished conductor & composer. The ANAM Concerto Competition Final on Wednesday 21 October at 7pm at the Australian National Academy of Music, South Melbourne Town Hall, 210 Bank Street, South Melbourne. Tickets: FREE anam.com.au
