Clarke died suddenly of natural causes on Sunday, after collapsing on a hike near Mount Abrupt in the Grampians National Park in Victoria. He is survived by his wife Helen and two daughters, Lorin and Lucia.

New Zealand-born Clarke first made a name for himself in the 1970s as Fred Dagg, a black-singlet-clad sheep farmer who took to radio and television with skits and songs such as ‘If it weren’t for your gumboots where would you be?’.
