Culture brings Australia closer to Indonesia

A deal between Adelaide Festival Centre and Indonesia's first creative agency BEKRAF will bring the two countries closer together.

In Australia’s increasing pursuit of cultural diplomacy, Indonesia is a key country. As a close neighbour with a population 100 times Australia’s, home to the world’s largest Muslim population and about 13,000 asylum seekers, many hoping to transit to Australia, it is a country that presents significant challenges to Australia’s foreign relations.

The work arts companies have done to breach the cultural barriers and create connections has been cited by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade as a valuable part of Australia’s diplomatic efforts.
