A still from the 2001 film Moulin Rouge! starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor.

Australian production company Global Creatures, previously responsible for stage adaptations of How to Train Your Dragon, King Kong and Strictly Ballroom, have announced a forthcoming musical adaptation of Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film Moulin Rouge!

Set in fin-de- siècle Paris, in Montmartre, the film – a gaudy jukebox musical starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor – received eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actress. It won two, for Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design, both by Catherine Martin.
