A residency that creates time to play

A mainstage theatre invites in an ensemble of artists with and without disability, creating a space to play that's rare for independents.

Melbourne Theatre Company’s NEON Festival of Independent Theatre is best known for its performance program, which each year features new productions by leading independent theatre companies such as Elbow Room and MKA Theatre of New Writing.

But this year’s NEON season also featured a six-day residency by Rawcus, an acclaimed ensemble of performers with and without disability.

Richard Watts is ArtsHub's National Performing Arts Editor; he also presents the weekly program SmartArts on Three Triple R FM, and serves as the Chair of La Mama Theatre's volunteer Committee of Management.
