Family drama pushes buttons at QTC

Theatremaker Todd MacDonald has made art out of one of his daughter's Tuberous Sclerosis diagnosis and its impact on his family.

Opening in Brisbane this week, Todd MacDonald’s The Button Event is a deeply personal work created in response to one of his daughters being diagnosed with a serious medical condition.

A story of sleeplessness, medication, hospital visits and side effects, MacDonald – a multiple Green Room Award winner and Artistic Associate at Queensland Theatre Company – describes the piece as one of the most revealing productions he has ever performed in.

Richard Watts

Richard Watts is ArtsHub's National Performing Arts Editor; he also presents the weekly program SmartArts on Three Triple R FM, and serves as the Chair of La Mama Theatre's volunteer Committee of Management. Richard is a life member of the Melbourne Queer Film Festival, and was awarded the status of Melbourne Fringe Living Legend in 2017. In 2020 he was awarded the Sidney Myer Performing Arts Awards' Facilitator's Prize.
