Fat dancers challenge our body image ideals

Kate Champion has worked with fat activist Kelli Jean Drinkwater to bring larger-bodied performers to the stage.

Recent years have seen considerable discussion in the arts sector around the need for greater diversity on Australian stages. In Nothing to Lose, Kate Champion’s final work as Artistic Director for Force Majeure, that discussion is taken a step further through the participation and representation of larger-sized performers.

Richard Watts is ArtsHub's National Performing Arts Editor; he also presents the weekly program SmartArts on Three Triple R FM, and serves as the Chair of La Mama Theatre's volunteer Committee of Management.
