Leading Australian soprano Amelia Farrugia and internationally acclaimed flautist Jane Rutter praise the light of the moon in Nocturnes & Songs to the Moon, the third concert of the popular lunchtime series, Live at Lunch.
Featuring a selection of classical and popular hits, renowned musical director and pianist John Martin accompanies Jane and Amelia as they perform Moon River, Cat Stevens’ Moon Shadow, Chopin’s Nocturnes, Debussy and Fauré’s Clair de Lune, Dvorák’s Song to the Moon and more.
Amelia Farrugia is regarded as one of the brightest stars of opera in Australia and has sung many leading roles for Opera Australia, performed with all the ABC Orchestras and appeared internationally with such distinguished conductors as Richard Bonynge, Carlo Felice Cillario, and Giovanni Reggioli.
“The moon, who turns a gentle face toward the Southern Hemisphere, plays an intrinsic role for all on our blue planet. She is our dream sister, our nightly companion,” said Live at Lunch Curator, Jane Rutter.
“This concert hails the moon and gives us pause to reflect upon her beauty and value.
“Dream States, Songs of Lunacy and Nocturnes – the repertoire features Chopin’s Nocturnes, two ‘Clair de Lunes’ (by both Faure and Debussy), Cat Stephens and more. Amelia Farrugia’s truly sublime voice is a perfect match. I look forward to celebrating the moon’s silvery dance with our Live at Lunch audience,” Jane said.
The 2017 Live at Lunch Season is a collection of brilliant masterworks which pay homage to the Australian Dreamtime, the moon, lullabies and Broadway Classics, featuring some of the best Australian performers including opera superstar, Teddy Tahu-Rhodes, Aboriginal didgeridoo player Blak Douglas, piano virtuoso Simon Tedeschi and many more.
