NIDA Student Production: The Colby Sisters of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

By Adam Bock
Directed by Anthea Williams

‘Nobody knows us’

Playwright Adam Bock’s The Colby Sisters of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania follows the lives of five sisters from a privileged background with a troubled family history. Immersed in New York’s social elite, there’s magnificent frocks, galas and gossip.

But underneath the gilded surface of seemingly fabulous lives is a layer of control, emanating from a place of love and fear, that creates a toxic excess. An appearance that has to be maintained. At all costs. The balance of power shifts within a complex web of perception and control. No one on the outside really understands these women at all.

Are these society girls everything they seem?

Prepare for humour, pain, history and a wonderful tennis match.
