This evening presents a very special opportunity to see Berlin-based jazz saxophonist/composer Silke Eberhard in an intimate performance with some of Australia’s greatest improvisers. Silke’s special guests in this performance are:
Sandy Evans is one of Australia’s leading saxophonists and composers as well as an educator and mentor. Sandy performs with the Sandy Evans Trio, The catholics, the Australian Art Orchestra, MARA!, Ten Part Invention, Bobby Singh, austraLYSIS, and Waratah. Sandy has won many Awards including an OAM, AIR Best Independent Jazz Record 2011, Australian Jazz Musician of the Year 2003, and three ARIA Awards. In 2002, Sandy joined forces with the Sydney Improvised Music Association (SIMA) to co-found the Young Women’s Jazz Workshops, to help counter the imbalance of women in jazz.
Andrea Keller, pianist, composer and bandleader, has received many accolades as a significant female jazz and improvising artist. In 2017 she won an APRA AMCOS Professional Development Award and an APRA AMCOS Art Music Award for Excellence in Jazz. Andrea has won three ARIA Awards, five Australian Jazz ‘Bell’ Awards, two further Art Music Awards, and fellowships from the MCA, Freedman Foundation and the Australia Council. One of our most interesting pianists, it has been said that “The mind and sound-world of Andrea Keller... is one of the most original – if not the most original – in Australian jazz.”
