What's On

Dance Tropics Dance

Nationally award winning contemporary dance company Dancenorth will once again join forces with Townsville’s renowned 1RAR band, popular Otto’s Fresh Food Markets and local comedy sensation Ian Zaro to deliver a festive night out under the stars!

After a successful premiere event in 2017, Dance Tropics Dance, is back once again. The first of its kind in the region, bringing together the city’s best dance, music and food in what organisers have termed a mini music and dance festival.

The night will feature street food, live performances, activities for kids, an Umbrella Studios creative arts tent and a glitter tent for festival goers to get their sparkle on.

Dancenorth Education and Outreach Manager Susan Van den Ham says ”the night will showcase a fantastic lineup of performances from the Dancenorth Open Class groups, Lindyhop Swing group and the Dancenorth Company ensemble.”

“Whether you want to participate or just observe it will be a night full of great tunes by 1RAR’s band playing songs from the 70s, 80s, 90s, naughties and Top 40s, with a huge dance floor, delicious street food by Otto’s Market food trucks and easy social dance lessons,” she said.

Dancenorth have recently launched a Pay It Forward campaign whereby event ticket holders and local businesses have the opportunity to purchase additional tickets to be gifted to other community members who may otherwise find it difficult to attend. The intention being to ensure an all-inclusive, accessible event for the broader Townsville community. Any Pay it Forward Tickets will be presented to local charities to distribute accordingly.

1RAR’s Band Sergeant Major, WO2 Sean O’Toole says “After the success of last year’s event, the band have been working hard to prepare a great mix of 90’s hits to bring to the Townsville public in 2018. Community engagement is a very important part of our role and being able to support local charities whilst working with the amazing crew at Dancenorth is super exciting!”

With all proceeds from the event going towards charities Dancenorth Community programs and Townsville Legacy, people can enjoy a fabulous night out also knowing they are contributing to helping their local community.

The all age family friendly event kicks off from 5pm at the Parade Grounds, Jezzine Barracks Saturday 26th May.
