Paul Grabowsky

As one of the most distinguished figures in Australian music, Paul Grabowsky requires no introduction. The pianist, composer, conductor and artistic director will draw from years of repertoire including original material peppered with jazz and pop classics to perform solo at Hawthorn Arts Centre.

During his time living in Europe and the US, he performed with many jazz luminaries including Chet Baker, Art Farmer and Johnny Griffin. He returned to Australia in 1986 and established a reputation as one of Australia’s leading jazz musicians with such bands as his own trio and sextet, the Wizards of Oz and as musical director for singer Vince Jones.

Since this time Grabowsky has collected swathes of awards and accomplishments including four ARIA awards, 2 Helpmann awards, several Bell Awards and a Deadly Award. He was the Sydney Myer Performing Artist of the Year in 2000, received the Melbourne Prize for Music in 2007 and is the recipient of the 2014 Order of Australia.
