This is an opportunity for Brisbane based actors, performers or student actors who would be interested in joining a small (physical theatre based) training research group of up to 8 people. The training would involve working with pre-expressive training in things like impulse work; heightening kinaesthetic and spatial awareness; exploring body memory and retrieval; strengthening presence; refining sensitivity to qualities (essence) of movement; and awareness of physical habits. It would also look at elements of physical actions; neutral mask; expressive mask; and embodying character practices. The purpose of forming this group is to use the sessions as an opportunity to work with the same group of performers over a period of time, observe the development and growth of that group, and grow the work together. This would serve my own research and teaching passion, when I am not running workshops or teaching interstate, and in return offer the group free ongoing training sessions in a friendly and intimate environment that allows for personalised feedback and growth. At this stage the sessions would run for anywhere between 2 - 5 months. These sessions would suit performers 19+ years, who are committed and keen to develop their craft and explore more physical based training processes. It would be great if you have had some form of training or participated in some workshops or classes, the work is not suited to the absolute beginner. You don’t need to be a graduate or professional actor as these sessions are for learning, but they are welcome too.
At this stage the sessions would be held once a week for about 2 hours at a venue (TBA) with wooden or tarkett floors, probably closer to north or west Brisbane (i.e. a venue in Bardon, Albion, Spring Hill, Ashgrove). The time of day/night could be flexible depending on the groups needs but it will be a weekday/or night rather than weekends. The sessions will commence approximately mid-January 2019. There will be no cost and no payment, and excerpts of the work will now and then be documented through photo or video.
