Shaun Parker & Company is seeking 1 more participant to join us for the next 2-week Queer Bites intensive workshop with Shaun Parker, Artistic Director and Choreographer, which will be held at the Seymour Centre from 16 – 28 September 2019. Earlier this year, we hosted 10 LGBTQI artists for our Queer Bites program in association with the presentation of our new work KING for the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, with support from the City of Sydney.
Queer Bites is a workshop and mentorship program for emerging LGBTIQ identifying artists, as part of our wider and ongoing mission to develop emerging artists and engage deeply with the communities we perform with. The program is multidisciplinary and includes dancers, theatre-makers, musicians and writers of diverse ages and backgrounds. We hope that during this next stage, the Queer Bites participants will forge new collaborations and work with Parker to gain insights into generating live performance, with a focus on reflecting on LGBTIQ experience. Through this development, Shaun Parker & Company aims to bolster new artists in their careers, build resilience for LGBTIQ artists, and continue with our tradition of building new works through research, development and collaboration. The Queer Bites mentorship program is free of charge. Participants each receive a stipend of $500 and are expected to attend each day Monday to Friday over the 2-week program.
