Do you need space to develop a new project?
We are inviting artists and independent organisations wanting to test ideas and develop new projects to apply for our Creative Development program. Brunswick Mechanics will support artists and organisations with two weeks of free space at Brunswick Mechanics Institute, along with access to tech, production, and industry expertise. Selected projects are able to use the Studio or Theatre space, and can choose flexible timeframes for the development period, for example one intensive or two separate one week blocks.
We are looking for projects that are innovative, exciting, and responsible. We will prioritise projects that take risks in facilitating conversation that is new and can demonstrate a commitment to contemporary ideas that understand the historical, social, and cultural context our time.
This year’s Creative Development program will also include a new stream for writers, as part of the Twosixty program ‘a seat at the table’.
For this writing stream, Brunswick Mechanics will support two writers with three months of free, shared space at Twosixty. The program prioritises and supports written work focused on racial and gender equity, driven by the primary agenda to make publicly visible discourses, issues and solutions relating to inequality. Brunswick Mechanics strongly encourages writers working on a piece of experimental writing to apply. Please note there is no flat access to the shared space, located on the second floor of the Brunswick Town Hall.
We strongly encourage artists and writers who live in the City of Moreland to apply.
Applications close on Sunday 29 November.
Successful applicants notified early January 2021.
Creative Development dates: January – June 2021. We are committed to ensuring the safety of our artists and community and acknowledge that changes and cancellations to this program may take place due to the current COVID-19 climate.
