About the Course
The National Theatre Ballet School is headed by Artistic Director Damian Smith.
Damian brings with him more than 25 years’ experience as a dancer with companies such as the Boston Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, Hong Kong Ballet, Hamburg Ballet, Ballet Du Nord, the New York City Ballet and 18 years as Principal Dancer with the San Francisco Ballet.
He has danced more than 200 ballets globally with more than 20 collaborations and has worked with world-renowned choreographers including Christopher Wheeldon, Wayne McGregor, Alexi Ratmansky and Natcho Duato.
The National Theatre Ballet School recognises the vast competitive element of the industry and with an Advanced Diploma qualification and first class training our dancers are fully equipped to impress Company Directors worldwide.
We offer an accredited pathway for Australian and International student’s to attain an Advanced Diploma qualification:

Each year builds on the skills and knowledge gained in the previous year. With the main subject areas (listed below) being built on each year to improve your skills and knowledge in theory and performance.
Classical – Pointe – Pas De Deux – Classical Repertoire – Male Coaching – Contemporary Character – Flamenco – Jazz – Pilates – Drama – Choreography – Mime – Music – Stagecraft Anatomy – Nutrition – Career Preparation
After successfully completing your training and assessments you will receive a recognised qualification for the year completed (as above). The certificates are awarded at a ceremony at the end of the year.
Whilst most students enter at Year 1 (Certificate IV) you can also enter at year 2 or 3 if you meet the entry requirements and pass an audition.
Full time programs – practical lessons per week – 20-25 classes (35-40 hours over a 6 day week) plus rehearsals and performances.
