Punch Buggy Theatre is looking for an experienced theatre director for the production of a new Australian play to be produced in 2019 / 2020. Based on the following job requirements, and given we are a non-profit theatre company, much of the role will be volunteer. However, we are happy to negotiate payment for the right applicant. The role involves the following:
* dramaturgy / script development (where necessary)
* auditioning of actors
* the rehearsal process
* collaboration with designers and technicians
* collaboration with the producer
* collaboration with the publicist
Synopsis of the play:
Set in 1890s Melbourne, the play follows the friendship of two teenagers in a time of Depression and rebirth. A young banker becomes addicted to gambling and befriends a young musician, who frequents opium dens. The play explores notions of manhood, the creative process, the lure of self-destruction, fatherhood, suicide and grief.
The play has 17 characters and can be performed by 8 actors (4 m + 4 f)
The play features guitar music, puppetry, dance
