Described as ‘a leading light of Australian musical theatre’ Alex Rathgeber is bringing a seductive new solo show to the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. The show’s name comes from the Cole Porter song, Experiment. ‘For me it’s kind of a summary of Cole Porter philosophy, of the way he lived his life,’ Rathgeber says.

Whittling down the hundreds of iconic Cole Porter songs to fit in the one hour show was difficult. It’s not the Cole Porter story stresses Rathgeber, nor is he attempting to play Cole Porter. The starting point was instead compiling a collection to explore what love is to people and marry that with his own experiences of life and love. Some of the tunes besides Experiment will include Too Darn Hot, Why Can’t You Behave, What Is This Thing Called Love, It’s Alright with Me and Night and Day all woven together to form a narrative across the show.
