Hailing from the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the oldest orchestral institution in the world, Ronald Vermeulen will join the MSO in November this year after an international search for the best candidate.

MSO Managing Director André Gremillet said Vermuelen’s creativity and talent will be a perfect fit for Melbourne’s 21st-century orchestra.

‘He is one of the most respected artistic administrators in the industry, and he brings a deep knowledge and passion for the symphonic repertoire,’ said Gremillet.

With over 15 years’ experience as a leading artistic figure, Vermeulen has been part of four major Dutch orchestras including the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra Amsterdam, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and the Residentie Orchestra.

Having collaborated with Vermeulen before, Chief Conductor at the MSO Sir Andrew Davis believes there could not be a better time for Vermeulen to join the team.

‘He is dynamic, pragmatic and highly creative, and I know that he is enthusiastic about joining our dedicated team who, with me, look forward to the insights and passion he will bring,’ said Davis.
