Helpmann Awards cancelled due to COVID chaos

Named after Sir Robert Helpmann, the prestigious awards will not be presented until 2022, Live Performance Australia has announced.

Australia’s prestigious national performing arts awards, the Helpmann Awards, will not be presented in 2021 due to the ongoing issues associated with COVID-19 and its impact on live performance venues and productions across the country.

The news was announced on Wednesday (28 April) by Live Performance Australia (LPA), which established the awards in 2001.

‘Due to the impact of COVID on our industry over the past 12 months, it’s not feasible to proceed with presenting the 2021 Helpmann Awards,’ said LPA Chief Executive Evelyn Richardson.
