Declan Greene announced as Griffin’s new Artistic Director

The co-founder of experimental queer theatre company Sisters Grimm, Greene is the first playwright to lead Griffin since 2003.

Best known for the camp, meta-theatrical and queer as fuck works created with his Sisters Grimm co-founder Ash Flanders, (including the Helpmann Award nominated Calpurnia Descending) Griffin Theatre Company’s newly appointed Artistic Director, Declan Greene, promises he’s keen to see all manner of works staged during his tenure at the company.

‘Griffin needs to be a home for every single playwright in Australia. No playwright should ever feel like, “Ugh, I don’t create the kind of work that has any potential to reach the Griffin stage,” because every playwright in this country represents a sliver of what’s possible in terms of the Australian cultural voice. So yeah, I’m certainly not going to be just putting on crazy queer spectacles,’ he laughed.
