Towards new Australian musicals

A new advocacy group with plans to raise funds for the development of new Australian musicals was a key outcome of the first Music Theatre Symposium.

The formation of a new advocacy body representing the interests of the Australian music theatre sector, and a plan to establish a $1 million dollar fund for the development of new, home-grown musicals, were the key outcomes of a sector-wide meeting held in Melbourne on Monday.

Richard Watts is ArtsHub's National Performing Arts Editor; he also presents the weekly program SmartArts on Three Triple R FM, and serves as the Chair of La Mama Theatre's volunteer Committee of Management.
