Dancing after retirement: new collective aims to extend dancers’ careers

A new dance collective of independent artists will help re-energise the Australian performing arts industry.

The word Animo comes from Latin and means to endow with spirit, to make alive, to fill with breath; Alice Topp’s hope is for a new collective, Project Animo, to extend a dancer’s career.

‘We are giving a much-needed home for dancers who, for varied reasons, have had to retire from their full-time
positions but who still have so much capacity for dynamic performance left,’ she said.
