ICYMI: The week’s top news in the arts

Sydney Contemporary Fair cancelled, AGSA first art museum to reopen, $5.2m in AusCo Grants announced, Opera Australia cancels entire national program, and more arts news.

QUICK NEWS BITES

In a formal statement, the suspected announcement that this year’s Sydney Contemporary Fair  was to be cancelled finally came. The September event held at Carriageworks has been pushed forward to next year.

‘When both Federal and State government introduced measures several weeks ago we had hoped that the situation would have dramatically improved by September and that it would be business as usual for this year’s Fair. However, it has become increasingly apparent that the restrictions and guidelines will stay in place for the foreseeable future, making it impossible for us to stage the Fair at a level that we feel will best serve our galleries, artists, partners, collectors and visitors,’ said the organiser.
