Since 1979, students from all around the Northern Territory have gathered to perform in The Beat Festival – the NT Department of Education’s annual performing arts showcase.
2020 marks the 41st Beat, however this year The Beat has been challenged with a completely unexpected global pandemic; COVID-19. There is an old saying in the performing arts - 'the show must go on!'. So in 2020, The Beat is going digital with a series of video clips!
The 41st Beat Festival has been delivered in true Northern Territory style, but instead of live performances in Katherine, Darwin and Alice Springs, delivered by the usual cast of around 1000 students…this time, they will perform in groups of 20 at a time!
Participating in a major recording and video project has been an exciting experience for the students, and they shine as brightly on screen as they do on stage.
This year’s The Beat video screening features:
- Many hundreds of students singing in choirs
- A 54-piece all student band
- Hundreds of students dancing
- Vocal soloists and student hosts (emcees)
- A live duo performance by emerging artists Jayna and Joanne.
Join us in The Playhouse for a glimpse of the wealth of talent in Territory public schools, and see the dedication, commitment and creativity of the teachers who nurture that talent.
