The Parlour

Clara's Party!

Everyone knows Robert Schumann, but how well do you know Clara?

Far from being simply the bourgeois wife of a famous but troubled composer, Clara Schumann was herself a giant on the musical landscape of the nineteenth century.

Her huge talent matches those of Chopin, Liszt, Mendelssohn and Brahms and yet, have you ever heard any of her wonderful music? Or her fascinating letters, or the poetry her admirers wrote about her?

2019 is her 200th anniversary year, and you are invited to join The Parlour to rediscover the life and works of this great musician.

Repertoire will include songs and piano solos by Clara, Robert Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn, Felix Mendelssohn, Liszt, Chopin, Brahms and much more…

Pianists Coady Green and Christopher Smith, singers Theresa Borg, Karen Van Spall, Adam Miller, Christian Smith, Kiran Rajasingam, Christopher Cox and Douglas Kelly and narrator Julie Houghton will bring this fascinating woman to life in a spectacular evening at Tempo Rubato, 34 Breese Street Brunswick at 7 pm.
