Arts Centre Melbourne and Australian Art Orchestra present Meeting Points Series: Leaf and Shadow
The Pavillion, Sunday 22nd September at 5pm. Tickets $29
Hyelim Kim is renowned for breathing new life into the traditional Korean bamboo flute (taegŭm). In this intimate concert, the acclaimed taegŭm virtuoso will perform both traditional compositions as well as her own contemporary works in a Meeting Points Series exclusive, Leaf and Shadow.
Kim collaborates with leading musicians all over the world, recently performing on BBC Radio 3 with Nils Frahm and Ghostpoet as part of Late Junction Sessions. She has also graced the stage at the London Jazz Festival and Omi World Music Concert (New York) using her instrument to promote exchange with a wide-variety of musical cultures.
Alongside Australian drummer Simon Barker, they will explore the fusion of traditional Korean sounds, percussive rhythms and experimental jazz nuances. Joined by leading contemporary ensemble Australian Art Orchestra, Leaf and Shadow reflects the vibrancy of borderless contemporary music and daring improvisations.
