“This orchestra definitely deserves our support to continue their wonderful work.” - Sydney Arts Guide
“A delightful concert and the mood very happily communal. And as my companion observed, a quarter of the price of a grand event at the Opera House with far, far more than that in quality… Treat yourself and your family.” – On Sounds
“An uplifting musical interlude with cinematic spectacle & melting moments thrown in… absolutely terrific.” - Sydney Scoop
Woollahra Philharmonic Orchestra’s final program for the year, ALL FOR LOVE is a musical ‘love-in’ of the highest order: love, star-crossed lovers and star turns aplenty!
This powerful and seductive program, bursting with sumptuous and rousing works, includes the passion, longing and grace of Bizet’s L’Arlesienne Suite and the pure elegance of Kuhlau’s Concerto for two French Horns.
And what tale of love is complete without a telling of the world’s most famous star-cross’d lovers? In the spectacular setting of St Columbus Church, Woollahra, Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet Suite will share all the light that breaks from yonder (stained-glass) window in the timeless tale of their romantic, passionate - but tragically short - lives.
The Woollahra Philharmonic Orchestra welcomes conductor Thomas Tsai to direct this final program for the 2019 season and - with great pride and delight - also features its own outstanding French Horn players, Laurie Liskowski and Cindy Sims in this unusual double concerto.
Now in its 23rd year, the award-winning WPO is going from strength to strength, having presented three highly-acclaimed, sold-out family concert programs this year and being recently honoured for its local contribution to the arts. As the critics say, the tickets are superb value for money and the quality of musicianship is outstanding. Come support them and treat yourself!
Conductor: Thomas Tsai
Soloists: Laurie Liskowski & Cindy Sims
