Graduate Singers – known as Grads – will present their final concert for 2019 – A Babe is Born on Saturday 14 December at 7.30pm in St Peter’s Cathedral, North Adelaide
Central to the concert program is Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s enchanting Midnight Mass (Messe de Minuit pour Noel). Based on traditional French carols – Chants de Noël – this work is a true celebration of the season. Graduate Singers is thrilled to be joined by a Baroque ensemble featuring Adelaide’s finest period instrumentalists for this performance.
Also featured on the program are Benjamin Britten’s antiphonal masterpiece A Hymn to the Virgin, Morten Lauridsen’s lush and sweeping O magnum mysterium, and Will Todd’s gentle carol, Softly. Jackson Berkey’s arrangement of Joy to the World and the traditional Catalan carol Fum, Fum, Fum both burst with rhythmic excitement. William Mathias’ sparkling and energetic A Babe is Born – the namesake of the concert – will feature the talents of David Heah on the magnificent St Peter’s Cathedral organ.
