Sydney Living Museums

Opening performance: untitled (maraong manaóuwi)

In February 2020, Sydney Living Museums and Art & About will present untitled (maraong manaóuwi) by Sydney-based Wiradjuri/Kamilaroi artist Jonathan Jones at the Hyde Park Barracks.

Join us for a free event on the opening day when Lucy and Lowanna Murray, young Wiradjuri dancers from Cowra, perform a contemporary clearing/welcome dance on untitled (maraong manaóuwi). The dance will highlight the importance of people coming together and reflects on themes examined by the artwork.

The major site-specific installation, marking the reopening of the Hyde Park Barracks, looks at the similarly shaped symbols of the maraong manaóuwi (emu footprint) and the English broad arrow as a way of understanding history and cultural relations.
